The Invitation 2022
A 2022 American horror thriller film, The Invitation, was directed by Jessica M. Thompson and written by Blair Butler. Starring Nathalie Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty, the movie draws inspiration from Bram Stoker's Dracula novel. It tells the story of a woman who, following her mother's passing, encounters distant relatives and uncovers their sinister past.
The project was initially named The Bride and produced by Emile Gladstone via Latchkey Productions, in collaboration with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert's Ghost House Pictures. Butler authored the screenplay, though Raimi and Tapert left because of scheduling issues. By 2020, Jessica M. Thompson had been confirmed as director, along with the new title and production details.
Casting took place between May and October 2021, with principal photography starting in September in Budapest. The film premiered in theaters across the United States on August 26, 2022 through Sony Pictures Releasing. Critics responded negatively overall, commending Emmanuel's performance but condemning the plot, script, and horror aspects. Despite this, it performed well financially, earning $38 million globally against a $10 million budget.
