Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail 2024
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail is the fifth expansion pack for Final Fantasy XIV, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) made and released by Square Enix. It launched on July 2, 2024, more than two years after the last update, Endwalker, available for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, followed later by Nintendo Switch 2. Similar to earlier expansions, Naoki Yoshida took on the role of director and producer while Masayoshi Soken created the musical score. The expansion was offered as a separate purchase for existing players; those new to the game could access it through an updated "Complete Edition" that originally came with Heavensward and now includes all previous content up to Dawntrail.
In this expansion, players journey to Tural, a land separated by ocean, where they join a succession ritual to choose the next leader of Tuliyollal. They act as champion for Wuk Lamat, one of the current ruler’s children, accompanied by allies from Eorzea who back other contenders. Following the conclusion of Endwalker, Dawntrail was envisioned as a "summer vacation" for the Warrior of Light. Beyond introducing new regions, the expansion raised the level cap, introduced two new character classes and a new playable race, and initiated the game’s first major visual update since its relaunch in 2013.
Upon release, Dawntrail garnered mostly favorable feedback, although it did not achieve the same acclaim as its predecessor expansions, Shadowbringers and Endwalker.
