Spelunky is a 2008 platform video game developed by independent creator Derek Yu and distributed as source-available freeware for Microsoft Windows. The game was remade for Xbox 360 in 2012, with subsequent ports released for multiple platforms, including a return to Microsoft Windows. Players control a spelunker character navigating through a series of caves, collecting treasure, rescuing damsels, battling enemies, and avoiding traps. Each playthrough features procedurally generated caves, ensuring a distinct experience every time.

The initial public release occurred on December 21, 2008. The Windows version source code was made available on December 25, 2009. An enhanced version for Xbox Live Arcade launched on July 4, 2012. This updated version was later released for Windows and PlayStation 3 in August 2013, followed by a PlayStation 4 release in October 2014. The remake also became accessible on Xbox One through backward compatibility in December 2015. A fan-made ChromeOS version titled Spelunky HTML5 was also created. A Nintendo Switch port was launched on August 26, 2021. A sequel, Spelunky 2, debuted in September 2020.

The game pioneered blending roguelike mechanics with real-time side-scrolling platforming. Its impact inspired numerous subsequent "roguelite" titles. Critics praised Spelunky for its gameplay, atmosphere, and design, although some found its controls and multiplayer aspects divisive. Many publications and reviewers considered it among the finest video games ever made.
