First-person shooter

Far Cry 6 is a 2021 open world first-person shooter game developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft. It marks the sixth primary entry in the Far Cry franchise and follows 2018's Far Cry 5. The game takes place on the fictional Caribbean island of Yara, where the authoritarian leader "El Presidente" Antón Castillo (played by Giancarlo Esposito) governs with an iron fist. Castillo is training his son Diego (Anthony Gonzalez) to continue his rule. Players control guerrilla fighter Dani Rojas ( voiced by either Nisa Gunduz or Sean Rey), who tries to overthrow Castillo and his regime. The gameplay emphasizes combat and exploration, allowing players to fight enemy soldiers and dangerous animals using various weapons and gadgets. It includes features typical of role-playing games such as a leveling-up system and side missions. Additionally, the game supports cooperative multiplayer.

Work on Far Cry 6 started around 2016 and involved significant effort. The developers looked at several recent historical uprisings for inspiration, especially the Cuban Revolution from 1953–1959. Castillo draws from the real-life figure Fulgencio Batista of Cuba. The game was intended to be "political", addressing topics such as the emergence of fascism, the consequences of imperialism, and the value of democratic elections, in response to debates surrounding Far Cry 5. The development team also aimed to reintroduce aspects from earlier entries in the series, including a tropical setting and a fully-voiced main character. The game was initially hinted at by Esposito in July 2020, then officially revealed later that same month during the Ubisoft Forward online event.

Far Cry 6 launched globally for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on October 7, 2021. Critics gave it mixed feedback, acknowledging minor enhancements to gameplay but criticizing its narrative and lack of innovation. Multiple downloadable content releases followed, including three expansion packs focused on antagonists from earlier Far Cry titles.
