Bravely Default II 2021
Bravely Default II is a role-playing video game released for the Nintendo Switch on February 26, 2021, with Nintendo handling publishing duties outside of Japan. It was also made available for Windows on September 2, 2021. The title is the third main entry in the Bravely series, succeeding the original Bravely Default and its sequel Bravely Second: End Layer, both initially released on the Nintendo 3DS. Developed by Claytechworks and published by Square Enix, it introduces a new narrative, setting, and cast of characters.
The story centers on Seth, a young sailor washed ashore in a distant kingdom following a storm. There, he meets Gloria, a princess defending four elemental crystals from dangerous enemies; Elvis, a scholar looking for a hidden ancient tome; and Adelle, a mercenary with her own motivations. The group embarks on an adventure throughout the land of Excillant, battling formidable foes in an effort to gather the crystals and restore peace.
The game received mostly favorable reviews from critics who highlighted its distinctive visual design, emotional score, and fresh take on traditional JRPG combat mechanics. However, some reviewers criticized its challenging difficulty and felt the storyline lacked originality. By December 2021, Square Enix reported that over one million copies had been sold across both platforms.
