Nintendo Switch Sports 2022
Nintendo Switch Sports is a 2022 sports simulation video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It serves as the sequel to Wii Sports Club (2014) within the Wii Sports subseries, which originates from the Wii series of games. The title includes eight sports: volleyball, badminton, ten-pin bowling, golf, football (soccer), chambara, tennis, and basketball, all played in a style similar to previous Wii Sports entries. Multiplayer support is included, allowing up to 4 players locally and 2 players online through random matchmaking.
Development began shortly after the release of the Nintendo Switch when director Yoshikazu Yamashita and his team were commissioned to make a Wii Sports game for the new console. Most members of the development team were new to the series and had not worked on prior Wii titles. The game was previewed before its launch through an online playtest in early 2022.
Nintendo Switch Sports was released globally on April 29, 2022. Critics gave it mixed reviews, with divided opinions on how enjoyable each sport was. Despite this, it achieved commercial success, selling over 18.32 million copies by March 2026, making it one of the top-selling Nintendo Switch titles. A follow-up titled Nintendo Switch Sports Resort was released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 22, 2026.
