Grounded 2022
Grounded is a 2022 survival video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Xbox Game Studios for Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It launched in early access on July 28, 2020 for Windows and Xbox One, with a full release on September 27, 2022. The Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 versions followed on April 16, 2024.
A small group of 13 Obsidian employees started working on Grounded after finishing Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, while the rest of the team moved on to The Outer Worlds. Players control four characters who are reduced in size after a scientific experiment, requiring them to survive in a backyard environment filled with bugs and insects. The game’s concept draws from the movies Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and A Bug's Life. Critics responded positively, and over 20 million players joined during its initial launch. An expansion titled Grounded 2 entered early access on July 29, 2025, while an animated series adaptation is currently in development.
