Sonic Dream Team 2023
Sonic Dream Team is a 2023 platformer developed by Hardlight and published by Sega. This entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise launched on iOS, macOS and tvOS via Apple Arcade on December 5, 2023. Players control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose, Rouge and Cream as they journey through Reverie Haven—a realm corrupted by Doctor Eggman using a strange device guarded by a protector named Ariem. The objective is to stop him from gaining full control of the area. Each player chooses one of the six characters and gathers Dream Orbs by finishing various missions across numerous stages. Collecting enough orbs unlocks additional characters for play. The game's focus on multiple playable characters returns to gameplay styles seen in Sonic Adventure (1998) and Sonic Heroes (2003).
The dream world of Dream Team was designed with the goal of reintroducing Cream into the series, making her presence feel logical within the plot. The overall experience aims for a thrilling flow state, with levels built to mimic rollercoasters and half pipes. Development took less than 2 years, marking it as the first 3D Sonic title on mobile platforms. Hardlight had earlier worked on several other Sonic mobile games including Sonic Jump (2012), Sonic Dash (2013) and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle (2017).
Sonic Dream Team earned mostly favorable reviews for its visuals and gameplay mechanics, though some criticism came regarding the storyline and overall duration. The developers plan to release multiple content updates, with the first one appearing on February 14, 2024. A fifth update released in December 2024 introduced Shadow the Hedgehog into the game, followed by a sixth update in March 2025 that brought a small campaign featuring him.
