Road 96: Mile 0 2023
Road 96: Mile 0 is a 2023 adventure video game developed by DigixArt and published by Ravenscourt. It serves as a prequel to Road 96, which released in 2021, and takes place two months prior to that game’s events. The game follows Zoe, one of the original game's eight core non-playable characters, and Kaito, a character from Lost in Harmony. Players control both characters during first-person exploration and musical skating sequences, with dialogue choices shaping each character's ideological beliefs and affecting the ending outcome.
Mile 0 was created in response to fan demand for more insight into the original game’s characters before its main storyline began. DigixArt chose to replace the procedural structure of Road 96 with a linear narrative focused on Zoe and Kaito. The story addresses how political views form during adolescence, while the portrayal of Petria’s social conditions reflects creative director Yoan Fanise’s time living in Singapore. Musical sequences were inspired by titles like Sayonara Wild Hearts and function as emotional metaphors for the protagonists.
The game launched on April 4, 2023 across Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Critics gave it mixed feedback, appreciating its character development and musical elements but expressing concerns about writing quality, political themes, and tonal balance.
