Pikmin 4 2023
Pikmin 4 is a 2023 real-time strategy video game developed by Nintendo EPD and Eighting, and published by Nintendo. It marks the fourth primary entry in the Pikmin franchise, succeeding Pikmin 3 from 2013, and represents the fifth title overall in the series. The game launched on the Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2023.
The gameplay includes a customizable protagonist. It adds two new Pikmin types: Ice Pikmin and Glow Pikmin. The Night Expeditions feature is also introduced, where players defend against waves of night creatures. In the storyline, the player takes on the role of a newly hired member of the Rescue Corps, who must be saved after an unsuccessful effort to rescue Captain Olimar. The events surrounding Olimar's crash are reimagined in an alternate version compared to Pikmin (2001). It remains unclear where Pikmin 4 stands chronologically among the main series titles.
Pikmin 4 earned favorable reviews from critics, who commended its level design, visuals, soundtrack, extensive content, and newcomer-friendly features. Some critique was directed toward its low challenge level and limited multiplayer capabilities. Commercially, the game performed well, surpassing three million units sold globally, establishing it as the top-selling entry in the franchise. An enhanced variant for the Nintendo Switch 2, called Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, is scheduled for release on November 12, 2026.
