Honkai: Star Rail 2023
Honkai: Star Rail is a 2023 free-to-play turn-based role-playing gacha video game. It was developed and published by miHoYo, with publishing outside mainland China handled by Cognosphere, d/b/a HoYoverse. The game is the fourth entry in the Honkai series and serves as the spiritual successor to Honkai Impact 3rd. It includes alternative versions of characters from earlier games in the series, along with gameplay elements taken from miHoYo's Genshin Impact. The main character, known as the Trailblazer, journeys through the universe aboard a train named the Astral Express, assisting and connecting worlds while dealing with various disasters.
The initial closed beta test began on October 27, 2021. The game was officially released internationally on April 26, 2023 for Windows and mobile platforms, and on October 11, 2023 for PlayStation 5.
Due in part to the success of Genshin Impact, the title generated significant anticipation prior to its release. Critics responded favorably overall, appreciating the narrative, characters, and combat mechanics. However, feedback was divided regarding the character progression system and gacha monetization model.
