Survival horror

Dead Space is a 2023 survival horror video game developed by Motive Studio and published by Electronic Arts. This remake originates from the 2008 title created by EA Redwood Shores, marking the first Dead Space release since 2013's Dead Space 3. The game reprises its predecessor's setting aboard the USG Ishimura, a mining vessel overrun by monstrous Necromorphs after discovering an artifact known as the Marker. Players control engineer Isaac Clarke as he battles through the ship’s corridors while dealing with increasing mental instability.

Work on a fourth Dead Space game stalled after Visceral Games closed in 2017, leaving the franchise inactive. EA revealed a remake project in July 2021, assigning development to EA's Motive Studio. Key personnel include senior producer Philippe Ducharme, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola, and art director Mike Yazijian, all of whom previously worked on Dead Space titles. The remake uses the Frostbite Engine, rebuilding every system from scratch and adding new features like volumetric and dynamic lighting. It leverages modern console SSDs for seamless transitions between levels, eliminating loading screens. EA explicitly chose not to include microtransactions during development.

Dead Space launched on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on January 27, 2023. Critics gave the game generally positive feedback, though it reportedly did not meet EA’s sales targets.
