First-person shooter

Counter-Strike 2 is a 2023 free-to-play first-person shooter video game developed and published by Valve. It represents the fifth primary installment in the Counter-Strike franchise, created as an enhanced iteration of its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (2012). The game continues the tradition of opposing teams, with Counter-Terrorists and Terrorists competing in multiple objective-driven modes.

Counter-Strike 2 introduces significant technical upgrades compared to Global Offensive, transitioning from the Source engine to Source 2, delivering improved visual quality, and implementing a new "sub-tick" server infrastructure. Several maps originally from Global Offensive were refined to use Source 2 capabilities, with some receiving full redesigns. The game was unveiled on March 22, 2023 and made available on September 27, 2023 for Windows and Linux platforms, succeeding Global Offensive on Steam.

Upon launch, Counter-Strike 2 garnered generally positive feedback from reviewers, especially for its weapon mechanics and redesigned environments. However, community response was divided, with concerns raised about performance issues, the removal of certain features found in Global Offensive, and the end of support for macOS users.
