Back to the Dawn is a 2025 indie role-playing video game created by Metal Head Games and released by Spiral Up Games. The game entered early access in late 2023 on Windows and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions launched without early access in early 2026. Initially, the narrative focused solely on Thomas the Fox, but with the full release on 18 July 2025, players gained access to a second character: Bob the Panther, a covert intelligence operative.
The game emphasizes storytelling, allowing players to control either Thomas the Fox or Bob the Panther. Both protagonists begin their journey in Boulderton Prison, and the storyline unfolds over 21 in-game days. A key element of gameplay involves time management, as in-game hours only advance when the player performs actions. This means choices regarding activities, dialogue options, and sleep duration must be made thoughtfully. The narrative concludes differently depending on decisions made during the stay at Boulderton, with multiple endings available for each character.
