The Bewitched Bourgeois 2025
The Bewitched Bourgeois: Fifty Stories is a 2025 short story collection written by Italian author Dino Buzzati and translated by Lawrence Venuti. This compilation presents an original grouping of Buzzati's fiction, organizing 50 short stories in chronological order based on their initial publication dates. Most of these works originally appeared in the Corriere della Sera, the newspaper where Buzzati spent the majority of his professional life. The Strega Prize was awarded to Buzzati for a previous collection of his short fiction, and The Bewitched Bourgeois garnered favorable reviews from English-language critics. Story lengths vary considerably, with the longest approaching novella length, while the shortest consist of only a single page.
