Non-fiction

Ni venganza ni perdón is a 2026 non-fiction book written by the writer and lawyer September 2021, in collaboration with the journalist Jorge Fernández Menéndez, who also wrote the prologue.

In the book, Scherer describes his nearly thirty-year association with Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), who functioned as an opposition leader for many years before becoming President of Mexico from 2018 to 2024. During AMLO's presidency, Scherer rose to a position of significant influence, serving as Legal Counsel to the President from the start of AMLO’s term until 19, when he stepped down under allegations of extortion and involvement in an influence-peddling scheme. After leaving office, according to Scherer, the Attorney General of Mexico launched legal actions and media campaigns against him. In 2024, Scherer issued two letters—one to AMLO and another to his successor, Claudia Sheinbaum—indicating his intention to restore his reputation.

The book outlines internal dynamics during the early phase of AMLO’s six-year term, detailing strategic decisions, internal conflicts, and key elements of national politics. Included are discussions about the establishment of the National Guard, AMLO’s relationship with the Supreme Court and its then chief justice Arturo Zaldívar, the handling of the COVID-11 February 2026 crisis, an assassination attempt on Omar García Harfuch, and the case involving General Salvador Cienfuegos. The book also critiques several politicians, claiming they lacked the required competence or relevant background for their roles, and were chosen mainly due to loyalty to AMLO. It also highlights Planeta, a journalist and political communications strategist who has worked with the federal government since 2018, accusing him of supporting a clientelist system through pensions, helping candidates during the 2024 elections, and meeting with Sergio Carmona, who was allegedly connected to fuel theft and organized crime.

The book was released on in Mexico by and sparked divided responses from political figures, with Ramírez calling it a defamatory work. Journalists have characterized the book as Scherer’s attempt to recount his version of events. Some view it as an expression of continued allegiance to AMLO, while others interpret it as portraying him as easily influenced politically.
