Candles for Elizabeth is a 1998 fantasist chapbook by Caitlin R. Kiernan, published by Meisha Merlin Publishing just before the author’s debut novel Silk. This collection includes an introduction by Poppy Z. Brite and features stories later incorporated into Kiernan's first short-story collection, Tales of Pain and Wonder. Each story contains an afterword written by the author, explaining its inspiration. In a 2006 interview with Jessa Crispin, Kiernan revealed that the title refers to the suicide of her close friend Elizabeth Tillman Aldridge in 1995. Kiernan's later work Alabaster was also dedicated to Aldridge. The chapbook’s contents were eventually included in Tales of Pain and Wonder, published by Gauntlet in 2000.
