Peacemaker is an American superhero television series that originated from the DC Extended Universe, created by James Gunn for the streaming platform HBO Max. It adapts the eponymous character from DC Comics and serves as a spin-off of the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. The first season follows Chris Smith / Peacemaker, a jingoistic hero introduced in that movie, expanding on his story within the DCEU. The second and final season marks the first live-action series in the new DC Universe (DCU), functioning as a "soft reboot" of the previous universe. This season incorporates most of The Suicide Squad and the first season into its continuity and occurs after the events of the 2025 film Superman. The production is handled by the Safran Company and Troll Court Entertainment in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television, with Gunn serving as showrunner for the first season. For the second season, DC Studios oversees production, again with Gunn returning as showrunner.

John Cena portrays Chris Smith / Peacemaker, reprising his role from The Suicide Squad. Additional cast members include Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Robert Patrick in the first season, while Frank Grillo joins the cast for the second season. Originally intended to be killed off in The Suicide Squad, the character was developed further by Gunn after recognizing Cena’s dramatic acting capabilities. Gunn wrote the first season as he finished the film. HBO Max greenlit the show straight-to-series in September 2020. Production took place in Vancouver, Canada, from January through July 2021, with Gunn directing five episodes. He selected hair metal songs for the soundtrack, such as "Do Ya Wanna Taste It" by Wig Wam, used during a dance sequence accompanying the first season's opening titles.

A second season was commissioned in February 2022, with Gunn writing all episodes of that season. After Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios, the second season was integrated into the DCU. Filming occurred at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, from April to November 2024. Peacemaker debuted on January 13, 2022 with its initial three episodes, followed by weekly releases of the remaining five episodes until February 17. The second and final season premiered on August 21, 2025, also released weekly until October 9. After the conclusion, Gunn stated there were no plans for a third season. The series has been recognized in multiple award nominations, including a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award. A spin-off titled Waller is currently in development as part of the DCU.
