Is It Cake? is an American game show–style cooking competition television series created by Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz, and hosted by Mikey Day. The program debuted on Netflix on March 18, 2022. Participants prepare cakes designed to resemble everyday items in an attempt to fool celebrity judges. Each episode's winner receives $5,000 and a chance to win additional money by identifying which cash display is genuine and which is made of cake.
The show originated from a viral internet trend sharing the same name, gaining traction on YouTube and TikTok. This challenge features intricately decorated cakes that mimic common objects or food items, asking viewers to guess whether what they see is real or a cake version. Mikey Day became interested in the concept after his manager, Michael Goldman, brought it to his attention. Despite having no baking experience or prior background, Day accepted the role as host. He described the appeal of the format as the "human desire... to pick out the 'disguised something.'"
In June 2022, Netflix decided to continue the show by renewing it for a second season called Is It Cake, Too?, which launched on June 30, 2023. In January 2024, Netflix renewed the series again for a third season titled Is It Cak3?, which aired on March 29, 2024. The production has since been extended through a fourth season.
Starting in October 2024, Is It Cake? began releasing themed holiday specials. Its first special, Is It Cake? Holiday, appeared on November 28, 2024. This episode included nine all-star bakers from the initial three seasons. Mikey Day returned as host. Over time, 4 additional holiday specials were produced. These include Is It Cake? Halloween released on October 8, 2025, Is It Cake? Holiday 2 on November 25, 2025, Is It Cake? Valentines on February 4, 2026, and the most recent release Is It Cake? Halloween 2 on October 9, 2026.
