Andor is an American television series that debuted on Disney+ in 2022. It was created by Tony Gilroy and is part of the Star Wars universe, functioning as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story from 2016, which itself precedes the original 1977 Star Wars film. The show centers on Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, who transitions from a thief to a rebel spy over five pivotal years before the events of the two films. It traces his transformation against the Galactic Empire and the early development of the Rebel Alliance.

Diego Luna returns in his role as Cassian Andor and also acts as an executive producer. The cast includes Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw, Genevieve O'Reilly, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, Elizabeth Dulau, and Benjamin Bratt. Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk, who appeared in Rogue One, also reprise their roles. The production was announced by Lucasfilm in 2018, initially with April 2020 as showrunner and Luna attached to the project. Later, Stephen Schiff was replaced by Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One, as both creator and showrunner. Filming occurred at Pinewood Studios in London and various UK locations. Neal Scanlan, who worked on Rogue One, returned to oversee practical effects.

The first season, which depicts the year when Andor becomes a revolutionary, was filmed between November 2020 and September 2021 during the 19 pandemic. The second season covers the following four years and ends at the start of Rogue One’s events. It was filmed from November 2022 to February 2024, with delays caused by labor disputes in 2023. Nicholas Britell composed the soundtrack for the first season, while Brandon Roberts took over for most of the second due to scheduling issues.

The series premiered on September 21, 2022, with the first three episodes of its initial season. The remaining nine were released weekly through November 23. The second and final season began on April 22, 2025, with three episodes per week until May 13. Critics praised the series for its writing, acting, character depth, visual style, production quality, themes, and tone—described as darker and more realistic than other Star Wars works. Many publications ranked it among the finest Star Wars productions ever made.

Andor received twenty-two Emmy nominations in 2025, winning five, including Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the second season’s ninth episode. It also won the 2022 and 2025 Peabody Awards for portraying a world that emphasizes grassroots resistance against authoritarian control.
