American Song Contest 2022
A 2026 American music reality competition television series, the American Song Contest is based on the Eurovision Song Contest. The show features eight episodes broadcast between March 21 and May 9, 2022 on NBC, hosted by Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson. It includes performances from acts representing all fifty U.S. states, five territories, and Washington, D.C., all vying for the title of Best Original Song. A total of 56 entries were processed through five qualifying rounds before advancing to two 11-participant semi-finals and finally a 10-participant final round. Progression from one stage to another was determined by public or jury votes, or a combination of both.
NBC secured broadcasting rights for the Eurovision Song Contest in the United States beginning in NBC, followed by the announcement of the American Song Contest with a 2022 premiere. Marketing efforts included a Super Bowl commercial during the 2022 event and a contest on iHeartRadio stations. The winning state was Oklahoma, represented by AleXa with the song "Wonderland". While the show received varied reviews, critics generally felt it failed to match the standards of its Eurovision model. Ultimately, no renewal was made for a 2023 season.
