A Friend of the Family 2022
A Friend of the Family is an American biographical crime drama miniseries. It is based on real events involving Robert Berchtold (Jake Lacy), who in the 1970s sexually abused and kidnapped Jan Broberg (Hendrix Yancey and Mckenna Grace) twice. Supporting actors Colin Hanks, Lio Tipton, and Anna Paquin take part in the series. The miniseries premiered between October 6 and November 10, 2022 on Peacock.
Nick Antosca developed the project after reading Stolen Innocence: The Jan Broberg Story (2003) and watching Abducted in Plain Sight (2017), both about Broberg's abductions. Antosca felt the original film’s 90-minute length was insufficient to cover Broberg’s complex story and wanted to explore it more thoroughly. Broberg and her mother, Mary Ann, worked as producers; Jan was frequently invited to the writers room for input. Filming took place from February through August 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia, and Los Angeles, California. Critics responded positively to A Friend of the Family, particularly praising Eliza Hittman's direction and Lacy's performance.
