AEW Battle of the Belts 2022
AEW Battle of the Belts is an American professional wrestling television series produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW), airing from January 8, 2022 through October 19, 2024. These one-hour programs were shown on TNT in the United States and released on a quarterly basis, with 12 episodes made overall. Originally scheduled for select Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), the show shifted to Fridays at 11:00 p.m. ET starting with its fourth episode, then returned to Saturdays at 10:00 p.m. ET from the seventh episode onward. Some episodes were broadcast live, while others were recorded alongside AEW's regular weekly shows. The series ended quietly without being included in AEW’s media rights agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery, which began on January 1, 2025.
Each episode typically featured matches for championships, averaging around three per show. In 2024, the format expanded to include potential future title opportunities as well as regular non-title bouts. Over the course of 12 episodes, all active AEW championships were contested, except the men's World Championship. These included five men's titles: the TNT Championship, International Championship, Continental Championship, World Tag Team Championship, and World Trios Championship, along with two women’s titles—the Women's World Championship and TBS Championship. Five championships from Ring of Honor (ROH), AEW’s affiliated promotion, were also contested during the series. These included four men's titles: World Championship, World Television Championship, World Tag Team Championship, and World Six-Man Tag Team Championship, plus one women's title—the Women's World Championship. The former FTW Championship, used by AEW from July 2020 until its retirement in September 2024, also appeared on the program.
Only three championship changes happened during Battle of the Belts episodes. The first occurred on the premiere show when Sammy Guevara defeated Dustin Rhodes to claim the interim TNT Championship. On the second episode, Guevara won his third TNT Championship by defeating Scorpio Sky. A third title change took place on the 11th episode, when Dustin Rhodes and The Von Erichs (Marshall Von Erich and Ross Von Erich) defeated The Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Matt Taven, and Mike Bennett) to win the vacant ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.
There were also four Championship Eliminator matches held during the series. In this stipulation, if a challenger defeats the champion, they earn a future title shot; however, if they lose, they are barred from challenging that same title holder for an extended period. One such match involved the Women's World Championship of Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, AEW’s partner Mexican promotion, which happened on the 11th episode. The final and 12th episode featured a standard tag team match with no championship stakes.
