Secret Invasion is a 2023 American television miniseries produced by Marvel Studios for the streaming platform Disney+. It adapts the 2008 Marvel Comics storyline "Secret Invasion" and marks the ninth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show was created by Kyle Bradstreet and follows Nick Fury and Talos as they investigate a plot by shapeshifting Skrulls aiming to take over Earth. Bradstreet serves as head writer, with Ali Selim directing.
Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn return as Fury and Talos respectively, reprising roles from earlier MCU projects. Supporting cast includes Kingsley Ben-Adir, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle, Charlayne Woodard, Christopher McDonald, and Katie Finneran. Development started by September 2020, with Bradstreet and Jackson involved. The series title, concept, and Mendelsohn's return were announced in December. Casting continued through March and April 2021, followed by Selim and Thomas Bezucha being hired as directors in May.
Principal photography commenced in London by September 2021 and concluded in late April 2022 with additional scenes filmed across England. Production changes included the replacement of much of the creative team; Brian Tucker took over writing duties from Bradstreet, while Bezucha left the project. Extensive reshoots occurred from mid-June to late September 2022.
The miniseries debuted on June 21, 2023 and concluded after six episodes on July 26. It launched Phase Five of the MCU. Critics gave the series mixed reviews, applauding Jackson's and Mendelsohn's acting but expressing dissatisfaction with the writing—especially the finale—as well as pacing and visual effects.
