Painkiller 2023
Painkiller is an American drama television miniseries written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. It adapts Patrick Radden Keefe's New Yorker article "The Family That Built an Empire of Pain" and Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America's Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier, examining the origins of the opioid crisis through Purdue Pharma, a company controlled by Richard Sackler and his family. The series portrays Purdue's ruthless and unscrupulous promotional strategies for their 'blockbuster' medication OxyContin, a long-acting version of the opioid oxycodone. The Sackler family has been labeled the "most evil family in America", and "the worst drug dealers in history".
Painkiller debuted on Netflix on August 10, 2023.
