One Piece 2023
Action-adventureComedy-dramaFantasy comedy
A fantasy adventure television series, One Piece (stylized in all caps), was created by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda for Netflix. It is a live-action version of the 1997 Japanese manga One Piece by Eiichiro Oda, which also acts as creative consultant. The production is handled by Kaji Productions and Shueisha, the company that publishes the manga. The main characters are played by Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, Taz Skylar, and Mikaela Hoover as the Straw Hat Pirates. Additional key cast members include Morgan Davies, Vincent Regan, Jeff Ward, Charithra Chandran, Lera Abova, Joe Manganiello, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
The show was ordered for a full series in January 2020, with production taking place from January through August 2022. The first season debuted entirely on Netflix of August 31, 2023. Just two weeks later, Netflix announced the renewal for season two, with scripts finalized by September 2023, although filming was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. That season, titled Into the Grand Line, was filmed between June and December 2024, and it released on March 10, 2026. In August 2025, Netflix confirmed a third season, which began production in November 2025 before the second season aired. This season, called The Battle of Alabasta, is expected to launch in 2027.
Critics and viewers have praised the series for its acting, visual effects, action scenes, comedic elements, and loyalty to the original material. Many reviewers labeled it among the finest live-action manga or anime adaptations ever made. One Piece ranked as the most-watched Netflix series (in terms of individual season viewership) during the latter half of 2023.
