Gyeongseong Creature is a South Korean historical mystery-horror television series that aired in two seasons. It was written by Kang Eun-kyung, directed by Jung Dong-yoon, Roh Young-sub and Jo Yeong-min, and features Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, Claudia Kim, Lee Moo-saeng and Bae Hyun-sung in leading roles.
The series is set in 1945 when Gyeongseong, known today as Seoul, was under occupation by the Imperial Japanese Army. It portrays the cruel treatment of civilians by Japanese forces, including secret biological experiments conducted on both men and women. The narrative also follows resistance fighters who oppose these actions and the monstrous creature that emerges from such human experimentation. This storyline draws inspiration from the actual Unit 731, a hidden Japanese military group responsible for testing chemical and biological weapons on people during World War II.
The first season premiered on Netflix and ran from December 22, 2023 to January 5, 2024. The second season became available on September 27, 2024.
