Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord represents an American animated television series developed by Dave Filoni for the streaming platform Disney+. This production forms part of the Star Wars universe, occurring after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008–2020), and centers on the former Sith lord Maul throughout the Galactic Empire's rule.
Sam Witwer provides the voice for Maul, returning to his role from The Clone Wars and additional Star Wars projects. Maul – Shadow Lord was revealed in April 2025, following Witwer’s involvement in offering guidance regarding the character and his vocal performance. The show is crafted by Lucasfilm Animation, with Matt Michnovetz serving as lead writer, Brad Rau as overseeing director, and Filoni, Michnovetz, Rau, Athena Yvette Portillo, Carrie Beck, and Josh Rimes as executive producers. The narrative follows a continuous storyline exploring themes concerning Maul that Filoni and Witwer deliberated during their work on prior productions. Animation is handled by CGCG, Inc. and Lucasfilm Animation’s in-house crew, maintaining a style akin to The Clone Wars yet enhanced in visual approach, aligning with Maul's persona and the environment of the planet Janix.
The 10-episode initial season debuted on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, releasing two installments weekly until May 4. Plans exist for a second season launching in 2027.
