Star Trek: Starfleet Academy represents an American television production developed by Gaia Violo for the streaming platform Paramount+. It marks the 12th Star Trek production within the expanded universe supervised by executive producer Alex Kurtzman. The show is set in the 32nd century, a future era first featured during later seasons of Star Trek: Discovery (2017–2024). This series centers on the initial group of Starfleet cadets in over one hundred years, depicting their growth and preparation to become officers.
Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard play the roles of cadets at Starfleet Academy, appearing alongside Holly Hunter and Zoë Steiner, as well as Tig Notaro and Oded Fehr, who return from Discovery, and Robert Picardo reprising the role of the Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. Plans for a Starfleet Academy series had been underway for multiple years prior to its official order in March 2023, with Kurtzman and Noga Landau serving as showrunners. Principal filming for the inaugural season occurred between August 2024 and February 2025 at Pinewood Toronto Studios located in Toronto, Canada. The second season commenced production from August 2025 to February 2026.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy debuted on Paramount+ on January 15, 2026, beginning with its initial two episodes. The remaining eight episodes of the first season were released weekly through March 12. Although the series garnered generally positive reviews from critics, it faced review bombing shortly after its release. In March 2026, CBS and Paramount+ announced that the upcoming second season, scheduled to air in March 2027, would be the final one for the show.
