This program originates from Hasbro's My Little Pony brand and marks the fourth animated version in the series. The show functions as a separate spin-off from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (2010–2019), introducing fresh cartoon art, everyday storylines, and including some former writers and voice actors from Friendship is Magic.

The production company behind the series is Entertainment One, with Boulder Media handling the animation work. In contrast to Friendship Is Magic, each episode lasts 11 minutes, divided into two five-minute parts.
