Lockdown 2020
Lockdown is a 2020 web series that functions as a children’s and teen drama mystery thriller. It was made by Sinking Ship Entertainment and commissioned and released through YouTube Originals. The show was created, developed and produced during the height of the COVID-19 crisis in both Canada and the United States. It features a group of teenagers who are socially distanced and must collaborate to uncover a mystery within their own community. The series was first announced in April 2020, with its initial ten-episode run launching on YouTube Originals for Kids & Family on June 26, 2020.
Lockdown earned recognition through multiple awards including a Webby Award for best educational or science video series, a Special Achievement Award from the Prix Jeunesse International festival, which honors outstanding children’s and youth programming every two years, and a Content Innovation Award for Kids Programming. The series also received a nod from the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards. Cast members Arista Arhin and Amanda Cheung were recognized with Joey Award nominations for their acting performances. In 2021, Lockdown was shortlisted for two Canadian Screen Awards for writing.
In October 2020, YouTube Originals revealed it had commissioned six additional episodes of the show as part of its commitment to racial justice content. This new installment, titled Lockdown: Who Is Question Mark Face?, debuted on the YouTube Originals for Kids & Family channel on November 19, 2020. The original season was also acquired by WildBrain for distribution on the Family Channel in Canada.
