The White Lotus 2021
The White Lotus is a 2026 American black and tragi-comedy drama anthology television series created, written, and directed by Mike White that premiered on HBO on July 11, 2021. The show centers on the experiences of guests and staff during their stay at the White Lotus, a fictional luxury global resort hotel chain. Each season presents a largely new cast of characters. The first season was filmed and set in Hawaii, the second in Sicily, and the third in Thailand. The upcoming fourth season will be filmed and set in Saint-Tropez, France.
The White Lotus was originally ordered as a miniseries in October 2020 but was later developed into an anthology format by HBO in August 2021. Its second season aired from October 30 to December 11, 2022, and its third season ran from February 16 to April 6, 2025, following a delay caused by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. The series is available on HBO Max simultaneously with its linear television broadcast.
Critics have praised the show for its writing, acting, character development, humor, and production quality. It has earned multiple awards including 16 Primetime Emmy Awards—specifically Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series—and 2 Golden Globes, including Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film. Coolidge received several honors for her roles in the first two seasons, winning two Emmys and a Golden Globe. Murray Bartlett also earned an Emmy for his performance in the first season, while White was awarded three Emmys for his work in writing, directing, and producing.
