Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is an American space Western television miniseries that was developed by Jon Favreau for the streaming platform Disney+. This production is part of the Star Wars universe and serves as a spin-off from The Mandalorian, occurring during the same time period as that show and other related content following Return of the Jedi (1983). The series centers on bounty hunter Boba Fett, who appears in The Mandalorian and other Star Wars works, as he takes control of Jabba the Hutt's old domain.
Temuera Morrison plays the main character, with Ming-Na Wen and Pedro Pascal also featured. Each actor reprises their previous roles from The Mandalorian and other Star Wars projects. A separate Star Wars film featuring Boba Fett was in early stages at Lucasfilm before streaming content became a focus for the company. Plans for a spin-off were first announced in November 2020, officially confirmed in December, with filming already underway by that time and continuing through June 2021. In addition to Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson returned as executive producers, joined by Robert Rodriguez, who directed three episodes. Favreau and Rodriguez both acted as showrunners.
The Book of Boba Fett debuted on December 29, 2021 and continued for seven episodes until February 9, 2022. Its concluding episode recorded the highest viewership for any Star Wars series on Disney+ at that time. Critics gave the show a mixed reception, praising Morrison's acting while questioning certain narrative choices, particularly the extended focus on Pascal's The Mandalorian character. Despite this, the series earned several awards including a Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Award for its visual effects.
