Documentary

The Beatles: Get Back is a three-part documentary miniseries made by Peter Jackson. It focuses on how the Beatles recorded their 1970 album Let It Be, which had the working title of Get Back. The series uses much of the original footage and audio from the 1970 film about the album directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg. This docuseries runs for nearly eight hours in total, with three episodes that each last between two and three hours. Each episode covers approximately one week of studio time, totaling 21 days of recording sessions. Jackson sees this as an addition to the 1970 documentary rather than a replacement.

Co-produced by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison, the series is presented by Walt Disney Studios in collaboration with Apple Corps and WingNut Films. It debuted on Disney+ with three episodes released daily starting on 25 November 2021. A section titled The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Concert had a limited theatrical release in IMAX theaters across several US cities on 30 January 2022. The full series was made available internationally between 11 and 13 February 2022, and also released on DVD and Blu-ray on 12 July 2022.

Called "a documentary about a documentary" by Jackson, The Beatles: Get Back earned praise for showing the band’s creative process. Some viewers found the long runtime difficult to sit through, and others criticized its use of digital smoothing and de-noising techniques. Critics noted that it challenged earlier ideas that the Let It Be sessions were filled only with conflict among the Beatles, instead presenting a more positive view of their collaboration.
