Hawkeye is a 2021 American television miniseries produced by Marvel Studios for the streaming platform Disney+. It is the fifth series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and follows the story of Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Kate Bishop / Hawkeye, based on Marvel Comics. The show takes place after Avengers: Endgame (2019) and features Barton teaming up with Bishop to face past adversaries while trying to be present for his family during Christmas.
Jonathan Igla created the series, with Igla serving as head writer and Rhys Thomas directing. Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton, alongside Hailee Steinfeld who plays Kate Bishop. Additional cast members include Tony Dalton, Fra Fee, Brian d'Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga, Alaqua Cox, Zahn McClarnon, Florence Pugh, and Vincent D'Onofrio. Marvel Studios had been working on a limited series for Disney+ centered around Hawkeye by April 2019, with Renner confirmed to return. The project was officially announced in July, and Igla joined the team in September. At that time, Steinfeld was unofficially attached. Thomas and Bert & Bertie were brought on as directors in July 2020, and principal photography began in New York City in December. Confirmation of Steinfeld and other cast additions followed, with filming wrapping up in late April 2021. Additional scenes were shot in Atlanta, Georgia. The creative team drew inspiration from Matt Fraction and David Aja's Hawkeye comic run.
The series premiered with its first two episodes on November 24, 2021 and continued for a total of six episodes, ending on December 22. It is part of Phase Four of the MCU. Critics responded positively, especially praising the action scenes and the dynamic between Renner and Steinfeld. A spin-off titled Echo, starring Cox as Maya Lopez / Echo, launched on January 9, 2024 as part of Phase Five.
