Action horror Dark fantasy Superhero Halloween

Starring Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, Harriet Sansom Harris

A 2022 American horror television special, Werewolf by Night, was created for the streaming platform Disney+ by Marvel Studios. It features the character Werewolf by Night from Marvel Comics, and serves as the inaugural Special Presentation within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), connecting to both films and series in the franchise. The production was written by Heather Quinn and Peter Cameron, with direction handled by Michael Giacchino.

Gael García Bernal plays the role of Jack Russell / Werewolf by Night, joined by Laura Donnelly and Harriet Sansom Harris. Work on the special started by August 2021, with Bernal cast in November of that year. Giacchino was confirmed as director in March 2022, prior to filming beginning later that month at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, wrapping up in late April. The project was officially announced in September, when Giacchino disclosed he would also compose the score.

Released on October 7, 2022 as part of Phase Four of the MCU, Werewolf by Night garnered favorable feedback from critics. Highlights included practical effects, black-and-white cinematography, performances (especially those of Bernal and Donnelly), Giacchino’s direction and musical score, and its narrative approach, which differed from earlier MCU content. A fully colored version titled Werewolf by Night in Color appeared on October 20, 2023.
