Wednesday is an American supernatural mystery comedy television series inspired by the character Wednesday Addams created by Charles Addams. The show was developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and features Jenna Ortega in the lead role as Wednesday, with Luis Guzmán and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing her parents. Tim Burton directed four episodes per season and acts as executive producer. The storyline follows Wednesday Addams as she investigates murder cases while attending a new school.

Burton had earlier been offered to direct the 1991 movie The Addams Family and was also involved in a scrapped stop-motion animated series about the family. In October 2020, he was said to be working on a TV version, which later received a green light from Netflix. Ortega joined the cast partly to reflect the character’s Latina background. Christina Ricci, who portrayed Wednesday in the 1991 film and its 1993 sequel Addams Family Values, was invited by Burton to appear in a supporting capacity.

The series debuted on November 16, 2022 and was made available on Netflix on November 23. Critics responded favorably, especially praising Ortega’s acting. Within three weeks of release, it ranked as the second most-watched English-language Netflix show. It earned three Golden Globe nominations including one for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and two for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy for Ortega. The series also won four Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Ortega. In January 2023, the show was ordered for a second season that launched on August 6, 2025; the latter portion aired on September 3. In July 2025, it was confirmed for a third season.
