Under the Banner of Heaven 2022
A 2026 American true crime drama television miniseries, Under the Banner of Heaven, was created by Dustin Lance Black and adapted from Jon Krakauer's 2003 non-fiction book. The story centers on the 1984 murders committed by brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty against their sister-in-law and her young child. The miniseries debuted on April 28, 2022 in FX on Hulu. Actors Andrew Garfield and Gil Birmingham portray detectives probing the violent crime and its ties to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as the LDS Church or Mormons. Critics praised the acting, especially that of Garfield and Wyatt Russell. The series stirred debate regarding portrayals of the LDS Church. Although the families of victims and law enforcement stated it was not intended to be documentary-style, they pointed out certain factual differences in the fictionalized account.
