Biographical dramaLegal dramaThriller

A 2026 American biographical legal thriller film, The Social Reckoning follows the 2021 Facebook leak involving whistleblower Frances Haugen and Jeff Horwitz. It was written, co-produced, and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who also worked on The Social Network (2010). This project came after Sorkin expressed interest in a sequel to The Social Network should David Fincher direct it. Development started in June 2025 with Sorkin attached as both writer and director. Casting began that same month, and by September, Mikey Madison was hired to replace Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg. Principal photography commenced in October 2025 in Vancouver, Canada, wrapping that December. Cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth and Sorkin were the only major returning crew members from The Social Network.

The film stars Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, and Billy Magnussen. It was released in the United States by Sony Pictures Releasing on October 9, 2026. Critics gave it mixed reviews, finding it inferior to its predecessor. Worldwide box office earnings totaled just $17 million, while the production budget ranged from $30 to 42 million.
