The Pope's Exorcist 2023
A 2023 supernatural horror film, The Pope's Exorcist follows the story of Father Gabriele Amorth, portrayed by Russell Crowe. This film was directed by Julius Avery and features a screenplay written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos, drawing from two books: An Exorcist Tells His Story from 1990 and An Exorcist: More Stories from 1992, both authored by Amorth. Supporting cast includes Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero.
Production started in 2020 when Screen Gems acquired the rights to Amorth's tale. Following a change in director and multiple script edits, principal photography took place in Ireland between August and October 2022.
The movie premiered in various international markets starting April 5, 2023, followed by its U.S. release on April 14. Critics offered mixed responses, and the film earned $77 million globally.
