Supernatural horror

A 2023 American supernatural horror film, The Boogeyman is directed by Rob Savage and features a screenplay written by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman. It is based on the 1973 short story by Stephen King of the same name. The narrative centers on a family haunted by the Boogeyman after a troubled visitor inadvertently introduces the creature into their lives. The film stars Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, and David Dastmalchian.

The adaptation of King’s work was initially announced in June 2018, with Beck and Woods assigned to write the screenplay. The project faced cancellation in 2019 following Disney's acquisition of Fox. It was later revived in November 2021, with Savage taking over as director. Early in 2022, Thatcher, Messina, Dastmalchian, and the rest of the cast agreed to participate. Principal photography commenced in February 2022 in New Orleans. Originally intended for Hulu, the film was shifted to a theatrical release after favorable test screenings.

The Boogeyman was theatrically released in the United States by 20th Century Studios on June 2, 2023. Critics offered mixed reviews, and the film earned $82 million worldwide.
