Scream VI is a 2023 American slasher film directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It continues the story from Scream (2022) and marks the sixth movie in the Scream series. The main characters include Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Roger L. Jackson, Jenna Ortega, Skeet Ulrich, Hayden Panettiere, and Courteney Cox, who all return from earlier films. New additions to the cast are Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving. The story centers around a new Ghostface killer targeting the survivors of the Woodsboro murders in New York City.
Just weeks after Scream (2022) opened, news came that a sixth Scream film was coming. Most of the original cast agreed to come back, including Bettinelli-Olpin, Gillett, Vanderbilt, and Busick. Production occurred in Montreal, Canada, beginning in June and finishing in late August 2022. Neve Campbell chose not to return as Sidney Prescott due to a disagreement over payment, meaning this is the only Scream movie without her. Brian Tyler, who composed the music for the fifth film, came back to create and conduct the soundtrack, with Sven Faulconer helping out as a co-composer.
The premiere took place at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in Manhattan on March 6, 2023. It opened in theaters across the United States on March 10 through Paramount Pictures. Critics generally liked the film, especially noting its fresh environment, higher level of violence, and strong acting. The movie made $167million worldwide, becoming the first Scream entry since Scream 2 (1997) to earn over $100million in domestic box office revenue. At the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards, it was named Best Movie. It ranked #3 on The Hollywood Reporter's list of "The Best Slasher Movies of the Decade." A follow-up titled Scream 7 was released in February 2026.
