One Life 2023
A 2023 biographical drama film, One Life follows the story of British humanitarian Nicholas Winton. Directed by James Hawes, it depicts events from Winton's life through alternating timelines. The narrative shows Anthony Hopkins as a 79-year old reflecting on his past, and Johnny Flynn as a 29-year old who rescues 669 primarily Jewish children in German-occupied Czechoslovakia during 1938–39, shortly before World War II begins. Supporting actors Helena Bonham Carter, Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, and Jonathan Pryce appear in key roles.
The film premiered internationally at the Toronto International Film Festival on 9 September 2023, followed by its European debut at the 2023 London Film Festival. In the United Kingdom, it was released on 1 January 2024 by Warner Bros. Pictures, later appearing in the United States on 15 March 2024 through Bleecker Street. Reviews were largely favorable, especially highlighting the performances of Hopkins and Bonham Carter.
