IndependentSatiricalSupernatural horrorHalloween
A 2023 independent postmodernist supernatural horror film, Late Night with the Devil was written, directed, and edited by brothers Colin and Cameron Cairnes. The movie features David Dastmalchian, Laura Gordon, Ian Bliss, Fayssal Bazzi, Ingrid Torelli, Rhys Auteri, Georgina Haig, and Josh Quong Tart in leading roles. Drawing from analog horror, found footage, and documentary styles, the narrative centers on a late-night talk show broadcast on Halloween 1977, where the host tries to increase viewership by bringing on an allegedly possessed young woman. This international production, involving Australia, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, premiered globally at the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) on 10 March 2023. It opened in theaters across the United States on 22 March 2024 through IFC Films, and was shown in Australia on 11 April. The film earned $16 million and received positive reviews from critics.
