Ferrari 2023
Biographical dramaSports drama
A 2023 American biographical sports drama film, Ferrari is directed by Michael Mann and written by Troy Kennedy Martin. It is based on the 1991 biography Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races, the Machine by Brock Yates, a motorsport journalist. The story centers on Enzo Ferrari, the Italian creator of the Ferrari car brand, during the summer of 1957 as Scuderia Ferrari readies for the 1957 Mille Miglia. Adam Driver stars as the main character, with Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gadon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O'Connell, and Patrick Dempsey appearing in supporting roles.
The film was chosen to screen for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it had its premiere on August 31, 2023. Originally intended for Showtime, the film was instead released theatrically in the United States on December 25, 2023 by Neon. Critics responded positively, and the National Board of Review named it one of the top 10 films of 2023. Despite this, the movie underperformed at the box office, earning just $43 million worldwide against a $95 million budget.
