Fast X 2023
Fast X, also titled Fast & Furious 10, is a 2023 American action film directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin, who co-wrote the story with Zach Dean. It follows F9 from 2021 and marks the tenth main entry in the Fast & Furious franchise, with eleven total installments. Starring Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, the cast includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, Daniela Melchior, Alan Ritchson, Helen Mirren, Brie Larson, Rita Moreno, Jason Statham, Jason Momoa, and Charlize Theron. The plot centers on Toretto defending his family against Dante Reyes, played by Momoa, who seeks vengeance for his father's death and the loss of their wealth.
Work began on the tenth Fast & Furious movie under October 2020, with Lin returning to direct. Principal photography started in April 2022 and the film’s official title was announced at that time. Lin stepped down shortly after, citing creative disagreements, though he remained credited as writer and producer. Leterrier replaced him a week later and made several uncredited changes to the screenplay. Composer Brian Tyler, a regular in the series, returned for the score. Estimated at a net production budget of $378.8 million, Fast X became the sixth most expensive film ever produced. Filming wrapped in August and took place across London, Rome, Turin, Lisbon, and Los Angeles.
The movie had its premiere in Rome on May 12, 2023 before opening in the United States on May 19 through Universal Pictures. Critics gave it a mixed reception, praising action scenes and Momoa’s portrayal but criticizing the script. Worldwide earnings reached $714 million, making it the fifth highest-grossing film of 2023, although it fell short of projections from both the studio and analysts. A follow-up titled Fast Forever is set for release in March 2028.
