Mortal Kombat II represents a 2026 American martial arts high fantasy motion picture adapted from the video game franchise developed by Ed Boon and John Tobias. It serves as the follow-up to Mortal Kombat (2021) and marks the fourth entry within the Mortal Kombat cinematic universe. The project was guided by Simon McQuoid and authored by Jeremy Slater, featuring returning performers Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Max Huang, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada, alongside newcomers Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, Martyn Ford, and Tati Gabrielle. The storyline centers on Johnny Cage, a martial artist actor summoned by the thunder deity Raiden and Sonya Blade to unite with other Earthrealm champions in an interdimensional contest against Outworld forces, aiming to halt the oppressive ruler Shao Kahn, with support from the Edenian princess Kitana.

After Mortal Kombat's release in April 2021, producer Todd Garner, screenwriter Greg Russo, and director McQuoid initiated discussions concerning the franchise’s future, considering independent films focusing on Johnny Cage and Bi-Han / Sub-Zero, as well as a continuation of the 2021 production. By 2022, New Line Cinema approved the sequel, assigning Slater to compose the script and McQuoid to return as director. Principal photography commenced in June 2023 across Australia, halted during mid-July because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, restarted in mid-November, and wrapped up toward the end of January 2024.

The film debuted at the TCL Chinese Theatre on April 27, 2026, followed by a nationwide release in the United States on May 8, 2026 through Warner Bros. Pictures. It earned $129 million globally on an $80 million budget and, although it was judged more favorably than its predecessor, garnered divided critiques from reviewers.
