Action dramaHistorical actionHistorical drama
A 2026 historical action drama film, The Uprising was written, produced, and directed by Paul Greengrass. Starring Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, and Katherine Waterston, it depicts the 1381 Peasants' Revolt in England. Bell and Jarvis play John Ball and Wat Tyler, the revolt's key figures, while Garfield portrays a fictional ploughman character. The film premiered in the US on 10 September 2026 and followed with a UK release on 9 October. Critics gave it mixed reviews, appreciating acting, action scenes, and modern relevance, yet criticizing its dark tone, visual style, Greengrass's signature shaky camera technique, and the Robin Hood-themed ending.
