Return to Silent Hill 2026
Return to Silent Hill represents a 2026 supernatural psychological horror motion picture, authored and led by Christophe Gans, alongside co-writing contributions from Sandra Vo-Anh and Will Schneider, and produced by Victor Hadida under his Davis Films production label. Inspired by the 2001 video game Silent Hill 2 by Konami, this third entry in the Silent Hill series functions as a reboot. The film features Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson portraying James Sunderland, a shattered individual summoned by an enigmatic correspondence back to Silent Hill in pursuit of his vanished beloved. Yet, he discovers a town once known to him, now transformed, and confronts horrifying entities both recognizable and unfamiliar, leading him to doubt his own sanity.
Initial development for a fresh Silent Hill cinematic adaptation commenced in December 2006; Gans and former screenwriter Roger Avary were engaged to direct a film version of Silent Hill 2, which received approval from Sony. Nonetheless, the project stalled and was ultimately delivered as a follow-up titled Silent Hill: Revelation (2012), excluding Gans and Avary. Around 2020, Gans declared he was developing a new Silent Hill film, adapting the narrative of the second game. The production gained approval in October 2022, with Gans returning to script and direct the project. As an international collaboration between France and the United States, filming occurred in Germany and Serbia from April 2023 through February 2024.
Return to Silent Hill premiered in theaters within the United States via Cineverse and Iconic Events Releasing on January 23, 2026, while Metropolitan Filmexport distributed it in France on February 4. Critics offered unfavorable assessments of the film, which earned $48 million globally, despite a production cost of $23 million.
