A 2017 American psychological period drama film, Phantom Thread was written, shot, and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie features Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, and Lesley Manville in a story about a haute couture dressmaker living in 1950s London who becomes involved with a young waitress who serves as his muse. This marked Anderson's first film produced outside of the United States, with principal photography starting in January 2017 in Lythe, England. It also represented Anderson’s second partnership with Day-Lewis following their work on There Will Be Blood (2007), and his fourth collaboration with composer Jonny Greenwood.

Phantom Thread made its debut in New York City on December 11, 2017, followed by a theatrical release in the United States two weeks later. Critics praised the film for its performances, screenplay, direction, musical score, costume design, and overall production quality. The National Board of Review ranked it among the top ten films of 2017, and many consider it one of the finest works of the 2010s and 21st centuries.

At the 90th Academy Awards, Phantom Thread received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Day-Lewis), Best Supporting Actress (Manville), and Best Original Score; it ultimately won the award for Best Costume Design. The film also garnered four nominations at the 71st British Academy Film Awards, winning in the same category for Best Costume Design, as well as receiving two Golden Globe nominations.
